) A real life superman (

I know there is a saying out there that goes something like:

“Never meet your hero, because you will only be disappointed.”

I’ve idolized, looked up to and reverenced many historical figures, celebrities and musicians.

Only to be, you guessed it, disappointed.

Thinking back over the years, I began to realize, my hero had been right in front of my eyes for the last 26 years of my life!

This person has always had all of the “required” traits of a hero.

They’ve always had outstanding character.

Always set an example worthy of notability.

Put the needs of others before their own.

Has always been a hard, dedicated worker.

Is always there to help.

Is strict but always gave you your space to make your own choices.

Is never proud.

Always admitted their mistakes

And is always humble.

In case you haven’t guessed it, my hero is my Dad.

My superman.

I dont use that word lightly, either.

He has faced incredible obstacles in his life and has always come out on top.

This year marks the 21st anniversary of the day we almost lost him.

February 25, 1993 is a day my family will never forget.
These are the remains of the Skyhawk my dad was driving

the day he was run over by a gravel truck.

a ruptured spleen
a torn diaphragm
a lacerated liver
collapsed lungs
acid burns on both hands from battery exploding
broken finger
paralyzed left hand
6 broken ribs
4 inch piece of bone missing from the femur
torn knee caps
ruptured ear drum
2 broken teeth
lacerated chin to the jaw bone
a broken upper jaw.
the list goes on and on….

Not to many people can say they have literally faced a semi head-on and lived to talk about it!

A week later when us kids finally got to see him. (thats me on the bed)

I cannot begin to tell you how much I look up to my dad. Not just because of what he has lived through, but because of the example he has set with his life.

He was given a second chance. And has lived it accordingly.

See, I told you he was a superman.
